U.S. REP. RON BARBER WILL MEET WITH CONSTITUENTS ON SATURDAY

Aug 3, 2012

TUCSON – U.S. Rep. Ron Barber and members of his constituent services staff will be downtown at the Tucson Farmers’ Market at Maynard’s on Saturday to meet with constituents and offer assistance with the federal government.

“The Tucson Farmers’ Market at Maynard’s is in the heart of Tucson and draws people from all over the city,” Barber said. “I am looking forward to hearing from Tucsonans and want to give people who have problems with federal agencies the opportunity to meet with members of my staff without having to come to the office during the week.”

Barber’s visit to the farmers’ market comes during a busy weekend for the congressman in Southern Arizona.

Constituent services representatives will be at a table at the farmers’ market from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday. Barber will meet with constituents from 9 until 10 a.m.

Barber’s constituent services representatives can help Southern Arizonans with a wide variety of issues.

Many requests for help come from veterans and active-duty military, seniors with issues related to Social Security and Medicare benefits and families struggling to make ends meet. There also are numerous requests for assistance with passports, visas and foreign travel problems.

The most common requests for assistance come from:

  • Homeowners trying to navigate the Making Home Affordable program to prevent foreclosure
  • Active-duty military dealing with TRICARE and other concerns
  • Students who have issues with loans through the Department of Education
  • Taxpayers working with the Internal Revenue Service
  • Constituents needing help contacting their city, county and state governments

Those services also are available at Barber’s offices in Tucson and Sierra Vista from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Tucson Farmers’ Market at Maynard’s is in downtown Tucson at the Historic Depot. It features local and fresh produce, cottage goods and ready-made foods from Maynard’s Market.

Although construction for the modern streetcar system has closed some downtown streets, the market is easily accessible with parking nearby at the Depot Plaza Garage on the west side of North Fifth Avenue between East Toole and East Congress streets.
